Spread the Word to End the Word

Today, thousands of Special Olympics athletes and supporters gathered throughout the world, to educate our society about the harmful use of the r-word (retard). People were asked to take the pledge online at www.r-word.org, or sign a banner or pledge sheet at a local event. Tallies of pledges from each event will be available later in the week, as supporters strive to reach 100,000 pledges. 

MTM and Special Olympics Oklahoma partnered to host a reception to "Spread the Word to End the Word"  to educate MTM's employees, local media and friends about this important subject.   Bart Conner and Nadia Comaneci lended their support as they spoke about the worldwide movement and the r-word campaign.   They are fantastic ambassadors for Special Olympics (and fine Oklahomans I might add!)   Many athletes were on hand to express their views on the r-word and a good time was had by all.  We got over 300 pledges!   Thanks to all who played a part in this wonderful event.
