As seen in the September issue of HR Executive
Oklahoma City–based MTM Recognition also wanted its
employee recognition awards to have that heirloom feel.
As a maker of custom recognition awards, the company
naturally wanted to implement recognition programs on a
regular basis. One of its awards, a custom-made ring,
similar to the engraved rings awarded to winners of the
Stanley Cup, tells a story of achievement. "The ring is a
symbol of what we do," says Alan Axley. Sales achievers who make the President's Club (typically the top 8 to
10 percent) and those in a service award program receive
rings that bear the corporate logo, the award year and the
recipient's name. It also bears a diamond that symbolizes
each achievement, whether it's for years of service or
beating another annual sales goal. And if there are too
many diamonds? The company will redesign the ring so
that they fit. "The ring tells a story," Axley says.

"Whenever our top achievers go and talk to customers, it
tells [customers] they are talking to a professional at the
top of their game. And [it] gives achievers a chance to tell
the story of their success."
